Meet the Artist
A warm welcome to my website!
After a career working in education, during which I dabbled in art projects and went to some lessons, I am now giving expression fully to my creative side. I began to explore a favourite medium: linocut printmaking.
I first worked with linoleum, cutting tools, printing paper and black ink, experimenting with images such as birds, plants, buildings, people and a cat. I found this process very exciting. Creating pictures with my hands in this way was a very new experience for me.
Once I had a small body of work, I decided to print the linocut images onto blank greeting cards and sell them to local Cape Town art and craft shops. The cards have been favourably received. And now I have a website.
Then, in 2024 I collated the black and white images into a calendar to sell. It too has had a good reception.
I am now having fun experimenting with colour reduction techniques in printmaking.
In addition to lino cutting, I wrote children’s stories, one of which I self-published. PLASTIC BAG’s TRAVELS is an eco-story with lively and colourful illustrations by Cheryl Neave. I have done several readings and activity sessions using the book in schools, libraries and bookshops.
Another favourite artistic medium is puppetry, and I am currently working on a puppet theatre production for young children. I have gathered a group of other artist-enthusiasts, and as a first project we are making expressive puppets to illustrate the children’s classic The Bad Tempered Lady Bird.
